When he saw some of the greatest funk/soul/beat bands playing at the SAF (incl. He went to dozens of concerts to hand-pick musicians for this project.

The band were named after the living memory of the former Hungarian Recording Company „Qualiton” – a record label which existed from the late 50s up to the 70s. They released two 7" singles on Munich’s Tramp Records and were featured on a compilation entitled Contemporary Funk (TR-9005).

The Qualitons' first big break through came when Kaosz produced shows with the veteran Hungarian soul-rock singer Kati Kovács. This brought a great deal of attention from the Hungarian media, as this was dubbed by them as "The Comeback of Kati Kovács". Artist: Eddy meets Yannah
Label: Compost Black
Genre: house

Eddy Meets Yannah’s third album on Compost „Fiction Jar“ was released in March 2010. The Croatian duo got lot of respect, heavy duty feedback, top reactions and full support by Gilles Peterson, Floating Points, Kevin Beadle, Patrick Forge, Lovemonk crew, Martyn, Kyoto Jazz Massive, as well as by some hot upcoming poshstep and dubstep dudes. Now it’s time for a top remix package, with contributions by Rainer Trueby, Ezel, YOSA, Bopstar
and Zed Bias, who also made some beats and the mixdowns for the album.
We don’t need to introduce Rainer Trueby, except maybe worth to mention that his remixes are also co-production with Danilo from Motor City Drum Ensemble. Guess you hear that. Ezel is a young producer from the Dominican Republic, already created a voice for himself under the guidance of
spiritual driven dance music. Ezel worked closely with the likes of Osunlade and Daz-I-Kue and with some really hot remixes under his belt.
Bopstar is also an underground good name, Elusive DJ, Restless Soul production member, former Soul Heaven artist, and undercover souljazz afficionado. making waves across continents lately spotted everywhere from Soweto to the Southport Weekender, restless in every way, recently quoted as saying : Bopstar was just the caterpillar, the butterfly is coming next.
You may know Japanese young promising talent YOSA from his recent Drumpoet Community release, well he has previously done nice 12inches for Resopal, Dirt Crew, Supplemental and Suara.
Last but not least the digital download bundle of this remix package containing 5 bonus tunes, dubs, vocal versions, plus a previously unreleased Zed Bias remix.

MAKIN' SENSE feat. BluRum13

Artist: Miles Moore
Label: Mile End
Genre: Deep-House

MAKIN’ SENSE feat. BluRum13
Words / Vocals by BluRum13
Written / Produced / Arranged by Miles Moore

Miles had the opportunity to work with one of my favorite Mcs to develop custom vocals for some of his productions. Ninja Tune recording artist, BluRum13. A vocal acrobat who has traveled the globe spreading his signature sound and flow. Known worldwide for his hip-hop productions, Miles decided to overlay his voice onto a deep house jam, and ‘Makin’ Sense’ was born.

A track featuring some soulful organ sweeps, lush keys and a steady rhythm sure to work up a sweat on any dancefloor. Inspired by such names as Harley&Muscle, Kerri Chandler and Dj Spinna. All producers who know how to create an atmosphere where driving rhythms can coincide with deep and soulful melodies.

‘Makin’ Sense’ is about taking the time to understand. Understand ourselves, our life and perspective of things. A deep reflection poetically expressed by BluRum13.

THE QUEST FOR OLORUN
Written / Produced / Arranged by Miles Moore

Olorun: A word for God (the Supreme Being), in the Yoruba language.

An introduction of the song by Miles Moore :

The inspiration for this track came from desire to pursue a deeper understanding of spirituality. As a child, religion and faith was sidelined to things such as hockey and music… Come to think of it, hockey and music were my religion! In hockey, I had faith that with an honest effort I could accomplish anything and be like my idols in the HABS, and in music I had faith that no matter what happened, music would always be there through good or rough times, and let me tell you, there were many rough times. To be honest, if it wasn’t for music, I probably wouldn’t be typing this…

Now, an adult, I have experienced many scenarios and have come to believe that a life without spirituality is futile. For me, it is something that resonates on several levels and guides me to a better understanding of my time here. This said, the title ‘The Quest For Olorun’ has a personal meaning in regards to my trek through the discoveries of my enlightened perceptions. Just as I like my music, I try to live my life… Deep.

Music wise, I am always looking for a balance between organic and electronic sounds to create a harmony that includes the best of two worlds. The rich, fluid and natural elements of organic instrumentation and the relentless, surgical and driving elements of electronic music production. For this track I focused on Latin and African organic rhythms and percussions infused with synthesized melodies and basslines. Some would say on the electronic ancestral house tip.

When it comes to laying tracks down, I usually do things solo and in this case all instruments were written, played and recorded by me. I search to create themes or tell a story with my songs even when they are instrumental and I feel that ‘The Quest For Olorun’ does just that. A journey to the minds eye for those who are willing to listen and not hear, to appreciate and not overlook, to discover and not disregard.
Artist: Shawn Lee
Label: Ubiquity
Genre: Soul

In addition to showcasing a love for 1960s and 1970s soul, Shawn Lee also steers his latest musical mystery tour into psychedelic and cinematic territory over the course of 12 brand new cuts. Sing a Song is like a breezy summertime mixtape, packed with catchy motor city licks and space age songs that Lee built from scratch with each collaborating vocalist in mind. Inviting vocalists from as far afield as Kansas City, Los Angeles, London, Detroit and New York, Lees’ latest album features Princess Superstar, artist Paul Fryer, and blind street performer Robert Bradley. During recording Lee had to be admitted to hospital for an emergency appendix operation, just a few days after his wife gave birth to their second girl. But the musical drive in Mr Lee is so strong there’s always time to Sing a Song.

Shawn Lee and his Ping Pong Orchestra will be in the USA this Fall to play their first ever gigs, including a stop at Bumbershoot in Seattle…hold tight for more gigs.

He kicks the album off with a duet featuring Orgone chanteuse Fanny Franklin, and their vocals lace an epic string-laden instrumental with a cautionary tale for fakers and flakes. Lee came across Marcus Malone while remixing a band called Jettricks. Surprised to learn that Malone is a mature guy with a young voice (and not vice versa) he was inspired to write a Motown-fueled jam for the Detroit native who was at one point signed to the legendary label. Making a brief appearance on “Who Are You,” Bing Ji Ling is originally from San Francisco but now resides in Brooklyn, NY. As a solo artist and member of The Phenomenal Handclap Band he’s a talented singer and instrumentalist, and more importantly “rocks the best beard and glasses combo I've ever seen!” according to Lee.

Lee met Jeremiah through connections with The Phenomenal Handclap Band and despite having just been discharged from hospital (for an emergency appendix operation) and having a baby daughter born less than three weeks prior Lee managed to record Jeremiah while he was on a quick trip through London. Lord Large is made up of Andrew J Jones and Stephen Large, “a man who plays keyboards like a frickin' wizard!” says Lee. "Fading Light" features Robert Bradley on lead vocals. Bradley is a blind street performer and songwriter from Detroit and a former RCA and Vanguard artist. He's a long time friend of Kid Rock and sang and appeared in the movie Lackawanna Blues and the music documentary "Playing for Change". Their track is a different version of the song that appeared on an earlier Lord Large album.

Lee is solo on “I’ll Just Wait A While” which starts out as a bluesy stripped-down song before morphing into space-age pop. It complements the two tracks with The Superimposers, a two man London group comprised of Dan Warden and Miles Copeland. Lee recently produced their new album and has joined the band, “ We go together like peanut butter & jelly and pimps and fur coats.” Fade Up is an amazing rolling funky folk track for hazy summer days while “Don’t Let That Feeling” is quirky tripped out soul. Lee also produced tracks for Princess Superstar, the native New Yorker who has worked with Kool Keith and Grandmaster Flash. Together the Mensa-member soulstress and relentless producer turn in slightly tongue in cheek soul jam. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Lee had to make the Kansas City connection with rapper/singer/producer/trumpeter and MPM recording artist Miles Bonny. Midwest represent!

Lee describes Paul Fryer as “total and utter creative genius.” The DJ, club promoter, singer and successful artist was musical director for fashion house Fendi for 5 years and released a book of his poetry with illustrations by fellow artist and friend Damian Hirst. Their beautiful and cinematic track rounds out the album.

Lees’ last three albums were also collaborations. In addition to the aforementioned Bei Bei he has recently worked with Clutchy Hopkins on the Fascinating Fingers album, and with Money Mark and Tommy Guerrero under the name Lord Newborn & The Sugar Skulls. He has plans to do some major interpretations of famous classical pieces later in the year, and has a “World Of Funk” album in the works.
Asked for their own perspective on the atmosphere and vibe of the video, the band describe it with their characteristic ability to hit the nail on the head: “Hmm...somewhere between Twin Peaks and Bergerac, maybe?”.

The B side of the “Clockwatching” 7” is a version of The Beat’s classic hit, “Mirror In The Bathroom”, which came about when Belleruche were asked to do a cover for a live session they recently did on Virgin Radio in France. Acknowledging the minefield that is playing other people’s songs, they shed some light on their thinking behind their cover of this major pop hit: “[The versions are] very different really. Hopefully we've made a good stab at putting a new spin on what is a classic song for a lot of people...covers are always tricky to understand. The lyrics and the bassline make that song what it is, and it was fun to push into a more abstract and electronic sounding direction.” And the result is a delicately dark and quirky electronic take on the track, which just begged for a vinyl release.

With 30,000 album sales under their belt, Belleruche are currently teetering on the brink of stardom. They released their first LP, ‘Turntable Soul Music’, on Tru Thoughts in 2007 and its fresh energy coupled with fuzzy vintage charm quickly won the attention of the press, along with a burgeoning fanbase. They shot to particularly high popularity in France, where they regularly play live to crowds of thousands (including a recent set opening for De La Soul). And over the course of another very well-received album (2008’s ‘The Express’ which yielded great reviews, daytime BBC 6 Music support, a live Radio 2 session and a prestigious iTunes Single of the Week), plus a packed schedule of enthralling live performances, the band have strengthened their foothold in the overcrowded UK landscape and now look poised to take it by storm. In March this year, whilst working on the new goods, they revealed a sneak peek into their experiments in sound with the “Liberty EP”, a collection of new material, killer remixes and beguiling acoustic versions, which took their sound in many an interesting direction, selling out on vinyl and having to be re-pressed within a fortnight. With their new album, Belleruche have thrown some more new and exciting sonic surprises into the mix, with tougher edged beats, live strings and contemporary influences alongside more rigorous attention to song arrangements. The trio are currently developing a new live show to encompass all of these elements and more ready for headline tours of the UK, Europe and North America later this year...watch this space.
