Review
Fort Knox Five and Kraak & Smaak both started in 2003, and both groups have made huge contributions to the funk and breaks community. Kraak & Smaak is a trio that hails from Leiden in the Netherlands. Fort Knox Five is a quartet hailing from Washington, DC. Over the past 6 years the two groups have had a close relationship from being good buddies, to working together on remixes, and have generally crossed paths many times.
This mutual interest led to a US nationwide tour in October 2009 that went from coast to coast. Each group performed both dj and vj duties on this tour, and together they discovered more shared territory. A special remix project resulted from this 3 week tour, a pair of remixes sure to please fans of both groups.
Kraak & Smaak gave the remix treatment to FK5’s “What Make Ya Dance” featuring Rootz (Thievery Corporation/See-I) on vocals. “Kraak & Smaak’s Dutch Oven Remix" is an Epic breakbeat floor rocker that takes the vibe way back and demands party people get on the dancefloor.
Fort Knox Five were able to give a special “Red Light Reminting” treatment to Kraak & Smaak’s “Ain’t Gonna Take It No More.” In addition to making it a funky groover and adding a Kraaking breakbeat, the FK5 enlisted the help of Mat The Alien (Whistler, BC) who provides all the "Mad as Hell" scratches. The result is fresh and full of flavor, making you want to keep on the dance-floor all night.
